Projectors create black by projecting less light. If the room itself is illuminating the screen, the darkest parts of the image are no longer very dark. That is why a bright room can make a high-resolution projector look flat and washed out.
Start with light control you already have
Blinds, curtains and turning off fixtures aimed at the screen can be more effective than chasing a single specification. Then use a UST-specific ALR screen to manage the ambient light that remains.
Look at light direction
Ceiling light is not the same problem as a bright window beside the screen. A screen's optical structure is directional, so the source of the unwanted light affects performance.
Do not ignore projector brightness
An ALR screen cannot create projector light that is not there. Very large images spread the projector's output over more area, so screen size and projector output must be considered together.
